- Language is when a symbol = object. Language is not discovered, it is invented, and it must be a very different way of thinking with language than without.
- You may perceive the color blue, a wall, and know the direction “left,” but without language you cannot know “left of the blue wall.” In other words, language acts to connect ideas/perceptions/concepts.
- No language brings you into the present moment, according to one stroke victim whose language center was turned off. She felt connected to everything and lost sense of self in a way that she never had before. This may be because the only perception that we have of ourselves is the story we tell about ourselves. Without language, you don’t have that story.
